Book Six: Nevermore: Ashes of Empire
Year: 1776 — The Eve of Revolution

Jack Nevermore awakens amidst the thunder of cannon fire and the screams of dying men. Smoke chokes the air. The earth shakes beneath musket volleys. He is clad in the red coat of a British soldier a drummer boy, yet the drum strapped to him feels unfamiliar, its worn skin stained with old blood not his own.

His mind is fragmented, heavy with a haze he cannot lift. Memories refuse to surface. Faces he doesn’t recognize flicker in and out of his vision—shadows with names etched deep into his bones. One of them is a girl with long black hair and a single glowing eye. She tries to speak to him in dreams and fleeting visions, but her voice is lost in static. Sometimes she shifts, her form changing into a pale girl with hair like fallen snow and golden, burning eyes. Alara. He knows the name. But not why.

Deeper still, beneath memory and dream, something stirs.

A name.

LaNoir.

She is not just a memory. She is a need, a weight in his chest, an ache in his soul. Jack sees her in mirrors reflected behind his shoulder, vanishing when he turns. In the corner of his eye, in the silhouette of smoke, in the stars above the battlefield always watching. Always waiting. Who was she to him? A ghost? A lover? A fragment of a forgotten past?

His body betrays him. At times his left hand quivers uncontrollably, fingers turning to black ash, revealing white bone beneath. It reforms, flesh crawling back like smoke in reverse. He feels hollow. Haunted. Inhuman.

What is he?

Surrounded by war loyalists, rebels, witches in disguise, and monsters hiding behind masks of men Jack must uncover the truth. Not just of the war, but of himself. The past he has forgotten is chasing him, clawing its way back through dreams and battlefields.

Somewhere out there is Alara the girl who changes.
Somewhere deeper, darker, is Little One the girl with one eye and a secret.
And in the very marrow of his being, LaNoir his heart’s shadow, the one he cannot live without.
As fire spreads across the colonies and ancient powers awaken beneath the chaos of empire, Jack Nevermore must ask himself:

Is he a man?
A monster?
Or something far older than the war around him?

Book Five - Nevermore: Embers of Reckoning
The story of Book 5 begins with Little One, a mysterious and powerful woman, awakening in a small, sealed stone room, disoriented and trapped inside a coffin. She shatters her confinement and emerges into the chaos of London, which is engulfed in the Great Fire. The city is burning, and people are fleeing for their lives. As Little One navigates the city, she feels an overwhelming sense of loss and confusion, as fragmented memories swirl in her mind, but the urgency to survive takes precedence.
While in the streets, she encounters a young man, injured and desperate, but a fire wraith, a creature summoned by malice and born of flame, soon appears. The wraith’s presence and its pursuit of Little One force her to make a difficult decision—whether to flee or stand and face the creature. With power flowing from the dark embers in her veins, she confronts the wraith in a battle of fire and shadow, using ancient and forgotten power. With a powerful surge, Little One defeats the wraith, leaving the city in stunned silence.
After the battle, Little One finds herself in a brief moment of relief as survivors emerge from the wreckage. But as the embers settle, a lingering presence—the shadow of a figure orchestrating the flames—haunts her thoughts. The victory over the wraith feels temporary, and she senses that greater forces are at work. The city’s destruction and the dark power coursing through her are intricately connected, and Little One knows her journey is far from over. The night has only just begun, and she will face whatever shadows pursue her, determined to uncover the truth and confront whatever dark force is behind the chaos.
